Is healing your thyroid naturally even possible? What is the best food for treating thyroid? Which foods should one avoid? There are numerous questions that strike our mind and we have an explanation for everything! Let’s dig deeper, shall we?
What is Thyroid?
Thyroid is an endocrine gland, shaped almost like a butterfly, situated in front of our neck and below Adam’s apple. It is wrapped around the windpipe and secretes hormones like triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), and a peptide hormone that regulate growth and development through the rate of metabolism. Thyroid disease occurs when the gland is not able to produce the right amount of hormones required for the body. These are of two types; one where the gland makes too much of the hormone leading your body to use up energy quickly, this is called Hyperthyroidism. Another is when the body makes less hormone than required, and this is called Hypothyroidism. The former causes thyroid symptoms like weight loss, increased appetite, insomnia, hair loss, muscle weakness, etc. Whereas, the latter induces abnormal weight gain, constipation, slow heart rate, tiredness, and heavy menstrual bleeding.
Three Biggest Enemies of Thyroid
It will indeed be very surprising to know what the three biggest enemies of thyroid are that we totally negate in our day to day life! You can be left open-mouthed once you come across these aspects that worsen your thyroid issues day by day. Let’s us ponder upon each one of them and understand the reasoning behind it:
1. Home-Cooked Food
One of the major reasons behind the development of a thyroid disease is home-cooked food! Astonishing, right? Well, this is because of the kind of food we consume at home. At breakfast, it’s bread, a glass of milk, and some ketchup. For lunch, it is overly spiced dal and rice, and for dinner it’s vegetable with a lot of masala, and Chapati! A significant factor to comprehend is that we, as a society, now live a sedentary life, however, we consume a lot more than we should! Not just this, but innumerable spices, fried food, and packaged food items at home is almost inevitable now. Stuffing too much food is a vital issue and this is where a change in lifestyle is needed the most!
2. Advice From Our Doctors
Bowled-over? Flabbergasted? We can understand, however, it now becomes all the more vital to understand why is it so! It is very common for doctors to prescribe you with life-long medicines as the only alternative to treating thyroid, but that’s not it. We are never told about how our body can develop to an extent where it can heal thyroid naturally with the right food and lifestyle! We tend to accept things the way they are, depend on medicines, and never have faith in our natural ability to heal, not only this disease but any other ailments that we may suffer from. Hence, we end up doing what the doctor says and yet not come across a permanent cure.
3. Medicines
We may not be able to recognize this now, but medicines and pills can only worsen your issues affiliated to thyroid. Not only do they fail to completely cure you from this disease, but also engender other complications like chest pain, irregular heart beats, shortness of breath, headache, leg cramps, emotional instability, etc! Besides, you are advised to continue the medication even if you start feeling better as it is not a permanent solution! Moreover, people end up consuming more medicines to treat the side-effects of the primary medication provided to deal with this disease. It is nothing but an endless void of external chemicals. No wonder, this is included in being one of the three biggest enemies!
How To Treat Thyroid?
Firstly, we have to apprehend the fact that there resides a doctor within that can cure any disease naturally with the help of our Vital Force (also known as the Pranshakti). Our body is well capable of healing thyroid forever. It is the food for thyroid that makes all the difference! This includes, what food to avoid in thyroid, what food to consume, and a strict thyroid food diet! Intermittent fasting and thyroid are also closely interlinked when it comes to healing thyroid via consuming food directly provided by mother nature. That is, with least meddling and human interference! Therefore, try to turn your food and lifestyle into your medicine because it is the only way to eliminate the root cause of this problem!
You see, the kind of food that we consume in today’s life leads to a lot of accumulation of toxins and waste in the body. The process of digestion is such that when this food passes through our stomach and reaches the intestines, the waste gets stuck to its walls. This, in turn, is absorbed by the Villi (finger-like projections that absorb nutrients and pass it to the bloodstream) present in the small intestine. Thus, the waste accumulated is absorbed by the villi and transported to different organs of the body, including the thyroid gland, which hampers the proper functioning and secretion of hormones pertaining to metabolism! Along with this, there is a five step reversal plan that one should obey to heal thyroid forever!
The Five Step Reversal Plan
Here, at Satvic Movement, we believe that a disease like Thyroid can be dealt with using our five step reversal plan. Reversing thyroid is very much possible through this plan. We shall discuss them in brief:
Satvic Food Plan
The Satvic food plan includes some of the basic principles that one should follow while working on their Thyroid food diet! To start with, our food should abide by the rule of LWPW! This means that our food should be:
Best food to avoid in thyroid is packaged, bottled, processed, refined, and boxed food items!
L – Living food that exhibits life like fruits, raw vegetables, sprouts, and grains.
W – Wholesome foods like brown rice, wheat with bran, jaggery, and dates.
P – Food which is completely Plant-based and does not contain any animal product like milk.
W – Water-based foods that are juicy like cucumber, ash gourd, and tomatoes.
Consuming plant based products and avoiding animal based products is necessary as the latter is more difficult to digest. Also, water-based foods help in cleaning and washing away the toxic waste accumulated inside the body. Food that directly comes from Mother Nature is what works in this case!
Here is a table that one should religiously follow to reverse thyroid:
Before Breakfast (8 a.m.) | Detox Juice | Ash Gourd or any fresh vegetable juice |
Breakfast (10 a.m.) | Seasonal Fruits | One plate of fresh seasonal fruits |
Lunch (1 p.m.) | Vegetable and Grain | Satvic Roti and Sabji |
Dinner (6 p.m.) | Salad or Soup | Satvic Salad or Satvic Soup |
Some noteworthy points to follow here are:
- Have only one grain per meal
- Avoid Rajma, Chhola, and Chanaa until you totally heal as they are difficult to digest
- Avoid multi-grain flour
- Instead of using oil, sprinkle grated coconut
- Instead of spices use fresh herbs in your vegetables
- Your roti should consist of 50% grain and 50% vegetable. (Here is a link as to how to cook your Satvic roti and sabji)
- Avoid consuming white sugar and replace it with dates and jaggery
- Abstain from milk and consume coconut milk
- Avoid consuming processed salt and instead use rock salt
- We do not need to avoid goitrogenic foods like broccoli and cauliflower if we follow the above satvic food plan
16-Hour Fasting
Intermittent fasting or a 16-hour fast is pivotal because this aids to the process of cleaning and healing inside the body. Therefore, it plays a vital role in removing toxins and waste from the body. Hence, there should be a gap of 16 hours between your last meal and the first meal of the next day! This means that if you have your dinner at 7pm then have your solid meal at 11am the next day. This will initiate the body’s cleansing process with the likes of purifying your blood, promoting hair growth, reducing excess weight, increasing energy levels, etc! Fasting and thyroid are very closely related.
Enema
It is important to clean your intestines using Enema which is simple, easy, and yet effective to use! Because the problem of thyroid is not born in our throat but in our intestines, until we clean our intestines, we may not be able to escape this problem!
Wet Pack
Basically, you need to take a cotton cloth, dip it in cold water, and wrap it around your abdomen, neck, and forehead for 30 minutes. This creates a temperature difference in places where there is a wet pack and others which are not exposed to the wet pack. Why do this? Well, this increases the flow of blood circulation. This also increases the efficiency of your thyroid gland!
Outdoor Exercise
Exercise is of paramount importance in case of thyroid. When we are not physically active, our thyroid gland starts slowing down and starts rotting. When you exercise, the physical movements in the body assists in the working and movement of the gland. This also initiates proper hormone secretion! You can perform brisk walking, jogging, cycling, dancing, etc. Additionally, do this in outdoors while being exposed to sunlight, and do take deep breaths through your nose.
So the real question is how long will it take to reverse the thyroid? So, if you follow all these rules religiously, it will not take more than three months to completely rid you of this dangerous disease called Thyroid! Hence, now we know that it is possible to cure thyroid without consuming medicines forever! Let the food do all the talking!
